3 Key Consulting is hiring a Scientist for a consulting engagement with our direct client, a leading global biopharmaceutical company.
 
Job Description:
This job offers a unique opportunity to apply novel science to something practical and useable for improving the process to manufacture medicines. As a scientist you will work independently on a project that will help build Client’s genetic characterization pipeline using next generation sequencing technologies, computational biology and bioinformatics, as well as work cross functionally within Client gaining exposure with multiple groups.
 
The Cell Line Development/Genetic Characterization group is looking for a candidate with bioinformatics expertise and biology background. The primary responsibilities would be to support cross-platforms next-generation sequencing analysis, build genome assemblies, develop and deploy new analysis method to mine and integrate multi-omics internal data.

Top Must-Have Skill Sets:
  • Proficiency in scripting languages and associated packages, including but not limited to R, Python or Perl.
  • Expertise with standard bioinformatics tools and statistical methods.
  • Experience with AWS cloud computing infrastructure (AWS Batch, S3, etc) and distributed computing environments (SGE, Slurm, etc)
 
 
Day to Day Responsibilities:
  • Support bioinformatics need of Cell Line Development and Genetic Characterization groups.
  • Perform Sequence Variant Analysis using next-gen sequencing
  • Develop pipelines for omics analysis
  • Perform CHO genome assembly
  • Document all experiments and analysis
  • Participate in group discussions and present data to cross-functional groups
 
 
Basic Qualifications:
 
  • Ph.D. in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Genomics, Computer Science or Molecular Biology
  • In depth understanding of genomic technologies including Illumina-based short read sequencing, PacBio SMRT platform and long-read Nanopore sequencing.
  • Hands-on experience in basic molecular biology techniques and NGS library preparation a plus .
  • Experience with AWS cloud computing infrastructure (AWS Batch, S3, etc) and distributed computing environments (SGE, Slurm, etc)
  • Proficiency in scripting languages and associated packages, including but not limited to R, Python or Perl.
  • Expertise with standard bioinformatics tools and statistical methods such as, but not limited to STAR, bowtie, bwa, samtools, bedtools.
  • Expertise with sequence and structural variant analysis method (e.g.GATK, FusorSV, Freebayes, delly,).
  • Expertise with standard genome assembly approach and hybrid mapping method ( e.g. Metassembler, SOAPdenovo2, ALLPATHS‐LG).
  • Working experience with genome annotation and prediction method (e.g. Trinity, Maker).
  • Experience with developing and documenting analysis pipelines, including implementation and deployment of containers for multi-omics data.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills and technical expertise to be able to communicate effectively with business and technology partners.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and independently.
