3 Key Consulting is hiring an Associate Engineer for a consulting engagement with our direct client, a leading global biopharmaceutical company.

Job Description:
We are seeking an Associate Engineer in the Pivotal and Commercial Synthetic’s department at our client’s Thousand Oaks, CA. facility.  The Associate Engineer will be responsible for supporting process development of client’s drug substance synthetics processes across all phases of development and commercialization. Thermal hazards of chemical processes will be characterized in the lab to set safe operating limits when proceeding to larger scales in the development of processes that deliver meaningful therapeutics for our patients.

Top Must Have Skills:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering or Chemistry.
  • Lab experience with synthetic chemistry.
  • Strong verbal and written communication.

Day to Day Responsibilities:
  • Under supervision will execute experiments for thermal hazards characterization using various calorimetric techniques.
  • Author reports documenting experimental results.
  • Participate in batch sheet reviews where thermal hazard data will be communicated to project teams.
  • Provide technical expertise and oversight of lab equipment and systems.
  • Assist in lab management activities.
  • Scale up/down of synthetic active pharmaceutical ingredients in state-of-the-art facilities.
  • Create models of multiple unit operations including reaction kinetics, distillation, extraction, crystallization, filtration and drying.
  • Active involvement in production and development meetings to identify solutions to meet program timelines and resolve complex problems.
  • Apply engineering principles and statistical analysis, including design of experiments, in-order to solve process issues and evaluate opportunities for process improvements.
  • Communicate and collaborate with Process Chemistry, Analytical Sciences, and EH&S.
  • Contribute to documents for process understanding, transfer, risk assessment, facility fit, and development/characterization.

Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Lab experience with synthetic processes
  • Knowledge of thermal hazards and chemical safety
  • Basic understanding of cGMP/GLP requirements
  • Experience building and utilizing first principle models (reaction kinetics, mass transfer, separations, distillations, isolations, drying, and hydrodynamics)
  • Knowledge of analytical techniques and solid-state characterization
  • Familiarity with statistical analysis/DoE
  • Working knowledge of standard plant operations and safety practices
  • Excellent project management skills
  • Strong verbal communication and presentation skills
